Re: 1955 pre-Texan Marlin 35
In the past 6 or 10 years I've added:
7mm08, .243 Win (won those two at raffles initially, then picked up another 7mm08 and built a large frame AR in .243. Would build another in 7mm08 but the barrels are a bit pricey.)
6.5 Grendel and 50 Beowulf (shot a friend's 6.5 Grendel and liked it same with the Beowulf, then found deals on parts to build my own that were hard to turn down.)
7.62x39 (As long as I was building I figured might as well put together an AK and then as long as I had the caliber might as well build a AR top end that could use it.)
.444 Marlin (outright given to me as the shop owner could not find ammo and I was the only one who'd even looked at the gun in a couple months. I bought basically a case of ammo immediately after getting the gun and a couple boxes of 265 grain Hornady FPRN jacketed bullets just in case.)
10mm Auto, .380 Auto, (bought these before CA ammo laws changed and knowing the change was coming laid in a couple cases for each. Could also list .32 ACP but those were not really sought after as acquired to keep them out of the crusher. I might have a couple hundred rounds for the two .32s but realistic the .380 ACP and small 9mms make the .32 ACP more of a curiosity than a real caliber.)
I haven't been looking too hard but I bought a short case of 50 Beowulf and 6.5 Grendel as 2019 was waning but I haven't seen either for sale in person in two years. 7.62x39 has gone from reasonable to downright stupid. I've seen a couple boxes of 7mm08 and maybe a few .243 Win but not any great supply.
Seems like you can find 5.56/.223, .308 Wing/7.62NATO, 9mm and maybe .45ACP in stock most of the time.
EVERYTHING else has been very much hit or miss catch as catch can.
While I'd like a .38-55 or .375 Win 94 Big Boy I don't think I want to be picking up a couple hundred rounds at two to four bucks per to go with it, nor pay the premium the Big Boys cost now.

Michael thats it.
but his was the Mauser action,Same setup.
Frank Marshall said he would get comments in Deer camp like, you need two wheels to roll that big gun around.
But he said he never had to chase down a shot deer,

I had a friend with a Siamese Mauser in .45-70.
The gun was fun but had perpetual feeding problems and when he got it the stock was cracked and had to be repaired.

I just missed a Gibbs Summit locally here a few years back. Way cool bolt actions.

On the Texans... between the date at bottom and the coupon code, I believe this Marlin was published in the July 1952 edition of Outdoor Life. Wish I had a clearer copy.

Marlin also made Texans chambered in 44 Mag and 444 Marlin. I owned all four at one time, but only the 444T remains in my possession. The 44 Mag was the 336-44, in a 336 frame vs the 1894.

That can't be common. Likely a $3K rifle now?Ranch Dog wrote:Marlin also made Texans chambered in 44 Mag. The 44 Mag was the 336-44, in a 336 frame vs the 1894.
