454 scout project

Post by deadkelly »

g'day all this is my first post about my r92 454 casull scout project . i've had alot problems with feeding & after much reading on the net & finally finding this site it seems i have a good idea what needs to be done . but i'll let you guy's with a bit more knowledge & experience guide me in the right direction hopefully  . my ruff plan is a hard hitting 100y rifle that's fast & lightweight & handy . i need a scope now as my eye's to bad using open sights past 50 y now . so i'm thinking weaver scout 4x scope in warne qd rings with base jb or other cold weld type what about arreldite??
i have the rossi barrel mount & cheek piece , is this what i should use ?? what about bigger screws ???
i know the action needs work ie good clean , deburr , wet n dry & polish all parts & a good light oil . anything else ????
replace springs & mag follower , trigger spring ???
check forend fit & barrel channel .
anything else ??
i'm tossing up between using cast rf 300ish gr - 250 gr or jacketed bullets not sure yet . it seems cast gives good proformence @ cheap cost .
btw i hunt goats & medium pigs & fallow & red deer mostly thanks .

Sounds about right. My 480 Ruger is just back from a scout scope installation, the barrel had to be drilled and tapped, but this rifle is going to need the full Steve's Gunz breakdown as the function is very poor. This is the only Amadeo Rossi I own and is quite a bit tighter and rougher than the BrazTechs I've bought.

The only thing I would note at this point is that I don't think you will need a magazine follower. Screw your's out to be sure but my rifle has a metal follower. May be the 454 Casull is different.

i think mine is a post fix one . it doesn't have the bolt safety & it has feed slot under mag tube . it has the yellow mag follower too . who does the best spring kits ??
i have also heard these 92's brake extractors is this true & is there a tuffer aftermarket option ???
i wanta order all my parts from one place if can because there's meant to be permits & redtape from usa to oz .

ok the latest . i booked in my rossi to get the mount fixed to the barrel next monday & smooth up the action . unless he has an ejector spring in stock i'll just have to use the stock one for now . but i can tell you after cycling the action a gazillion times it is way better than it was .
i pulled off the forend ! OMG balsa wood allright . i can't see how it would even matter if there was no bulsa between the barrel & mag tube as i only have a few splinters there anyway . i was looking at a niko sterling puma scout scope 2.5x32 last night it is $139 . if i buy a weaver retail here it will cost me $400+ so that means i'm gonna have to get one from the good old USA . problem alot of stores arn't selling to oversea's buyers . i really want the 4x power of the weaver . i believe we can except gifts though from the uas . so i may need a favour from somebody over there if possible ????
