Perfecta .38 spec
New member Trailmax here. This will be my first post. Got a new 92 a few weeks ago,and even though it shot great , I couldn't leave well enough alone, so in goes a 7/32x 1 5/8 spring, clean out the shipping grease, do some light stoning, a little 0 wt-20. and it is fantastic. Testing it out with some Rem white box .38 fmj. Shoot all 100 of them, and pick up a box of Perfecta .38 Spec. that i picked up last week at Wally world. Considerable more kick and noise. Kicked it out and looked at the empty cartridge. Headstamped .357 Magnum. Look back at the box, marked .38 Spec. Figured no problem, it can handle it, so shot up that box. Went to check the other boxes I had bought the same day, and of the four boxes of 50 rounds marked .38, three boxes actually contained .357 magnums. Checked them against some known .38s and they seem to be headstamped correctly, but boxed wrong. Could look at this as "hey! .357s at WW for 14.95 a box" or "wow, someone could put these in the wrong gun." I believe the magnum was designed so that they would not chamber in a .38 revolver, so safety is not as big an issue as I first thought. However, Mislabeling is nothing to take lightly, so I will be contacting Perfecta, which is Tulammo, which is Fiocchi, with the lot numbers. On the inside of the box it is inkstamped 5511037-1062 and Cip033-3411 I assume that one of these is the lot number. Look forward to learning a lot on this website! Safe Shooting!!

Re: Perfecta .38 spec
Welcome.
Awesome story. Doubt it will happen to me 'cause I don't buy .38/.357 from the store but maybe I should?
Thanks for the info. Please post back what you hear in return.
If you don't need .357 brass I can tell you where to send it.

Hmm, Perfecta, never heard of it ? I'll have to check WW next time I'm in there.
But like GG I roll my own so don't buy factory rounds. Save that brass as you will
eventually get into reloading, just comes naturally.

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.
It's such a bonus having all that lever-action rifle fun at handgun shooting prices.

Re: Perfecta .38 spec
Interesting find as not often is there mistakes with factory ammo. I would love to know the pressure it was loaded to. It might be a "brass" problem with the powder charge at 38 Spl levels but still quite a mistake on their part given the overall length difference of both the brass and cartridge.
The OAL might prevent it from being used in a 38 Spl revolver as the bullets should hang out the front of the cylinder.
Gon'na move this to the Ammo forum, it it will shadow here for a day.

Yep, a .357 won't fit in my M88 by length or diameter.
