Does anyone by chance know the relationship between solid beeswax (in ounces) versus melted beeswax in fluid ounces? Getting ready to make some lube and all the formulas seem to call for ounces melted.
Thanks, make smoke,

Re: Beeswax solid and liquid
I suspect the recipes are actually using ounces by weight before melting.
I'd run it that way and not worry too much about any difference.

Thinking more and more along those lines. I've been researching lube formulas over on cast boolitts until I think my eye balls are getting rectangular from staring at the screen.Archer wrote:I suspect the recipes are actually using ounces by weight before melting.

Good morning
I have not considered it being in liquid ounces. Always figured it was a weight deal. Seems to work well that way.

Well you are no doubt correct BUT the question and the confusion is because ounces of weight vs. liquid (volumetric) ounces are not always the same thing.runfiverun wrote:bet they weigh the same melted or not.
You think that's bad the middle ages definition of weights and measures was often inconsistent from item to item much worse than today.

(Although I think they have screwed up the definition of Cup as they have the same note as the pint definiton. The modern U.S. definition is half a pint.)

Re: Beeswax solid and liquid
Just a late and quick update. I weighed out 16 ounces of bees wax and melted in my make shift double boiler (4 cup Pyrex measure sitting in a water bath) and it melted right up to to the 16 ounce mark on the cup.runfiverun wrote:bet they weigh the same melted or not.
Oh and the Emmerts I made that day is working great.
