A friend loaned me his .454 Casull to compare it's recoil to my .45-70. I had to put the Hornady 325 gr FTX in my .45-70 to get the same subjective recoil. The .454 is a beast, indeed!
As for powder burn rates ... I always leave the range peppered with unburnt powder!

Re: 45-70 BFR
Greetings
I cannot like those long cylinders. I am a waiting for a 500 JRH BFR to come along as that 500 S&W just looks awful to my eyes. But for now I am very content with a 475 Linebaugh. It looks like a revolver and not a torpedo launcher.

Re: 45-70 BFR
I shot one of these chambered in 500 S&W and recoil was HORRENDOUS! I managed to fire all five shots. First shot nearly vaporized my target which was a 12X12 Patio block. I felt the effects of recoil for several days afterward. I'm not overly sensitive to recoil and am accustomed to shooting large caliber handguns. A .454 Casull is mild recoil compared to the BFR in 500 S&W.
Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixee?
