Chamber Plug

Post by wolbert_s »

I bought my CJ used off of gunbroker and unfortunately it didn't come with the chamber plug for legal upland bird hunting (which I use it for). I tried to find one online, but they seem to be discontinued. (https://shoprossi.com/hunting/circuit-j ... mber-plugs)

I decided to make my own with my 3D printer. I had to iterate 2-3 times to get it to fit just right. I added the final 3D print files to the folder link below in case you need one too. If you don't have your own 3D printer you can upload the .STL file to Xometry.com and get a 3D printing quote. Usually less than $12 but I don't know how they'll fit since they use a different 3D print method.

Nice job. Totally un-needed. The Circuit Court Judge is not a shotgun, as it has a rifled bore.
Even so, since the plugs do not require disassembly, they would not be legal on a smooth bore shoulder fired long barreled revolver, which would be a shotgun.

You might want to check to see if hunting with a rifle (which the Circuit Court Judge is...) is legal. Some places have restrictions against rifles for bird hunting.

None of this makes sense to me but it might be because who makes the rules.

Shotgun=shoulder fired smooth bore long gun
Rifle=shoulder fired rifled bore long gun

Shotguns are restricted by federal law for migratory birds, and most states law for non-migratory or migratory birds, to three shots by a mechanism or plug which requires the gun to be disassembled for removal.

Hunting with shot, from a rifled Barrel is a Challenge.
I bought a fully Rifled Mossberg 500A from a guy, that tried it, for Bird Hunting, but couldn't hit anything, but with his normal Shotgun He always hit....

Here is an article, showing what to expect, with (buck)shot, from a rifled Barrel.

At 12-15 yards, expect 25" patterns with a hole in the middle(Donuts)
Happy Shooting from Greenland

I got a Ruger Wrangler yesterday and it has a two chamber cylinder plug much like the one shown in post one here. With a rifled 4-5/8" long .22" bore I don't think it's much of a shotgun.

Ruger does that so you can't load or turn the cylinder without taking the plug out
