I'll always choose the .454 over the .45 Colt version, hands down. Everyone seems to forget that the .454 version has a beefier magazine tube which threads into the receiver. You simply don't have to worry about the mag tube sliding out under recoil.

Regarding price, I don't think you'll find a .454 model 92 for less than $1000. If I didn't already have mine and came across one for less than $1000 I wouldn't hesitate to snap it up.

I'm confused about the 454 MDL's, Rossi website shows gate and tube feed but most sellers don't have a clue which one they have. And are they both the threaded types? I'll get something by Sept 1. I bet the 454 is a great Alaska hit, handy camp gun.

I had one for awhile and you could load it from the loading gate or mag. tube.

When I ordered my 454 I did not ask which one it was. I was just looking for a 454 92 Rossi that was hard to find. My LGS found me one a week later and I just bought it. Mine is kings gate loading only. I like it and don't know if I would want the bigger sized magazine tube with the tube loading option. I would have loved either one if that was all that was available.

It's kind of comical the comparisons of apples and grapefruit regarding R92's. The first few versions were not offered in .454 to my knowledge. The one I had was in the Puma era and might be one of the oldest versions of the .454 R92. It did NOT have the cat head on it. Wouldn't have bought it if it did. It did have a safety that I took off in favor of a peep sight sold by a member here that was not worth the money it cost IMO. It was blued with a 20" barrel and a regular lever like Browning intended. It DID have a loading opening in the screw-in tube. There were at least two more versions of Rossi between that one and the current products...likely 3-4. So without pictures and maybe even new sold dates, you all may be comparing items that do not compare.

Think I've got a deal worked out on a winchester short rifle. And in 44 mag, it was to cheap to pass up. Just need his FFl to confirm he has it.

I have a Winchester 92 Short rifle with saddle ring and big loop lever. Great rifle, you will love that Winchester. In fact I also have that same rifle in 45 Colt.
