Redding profile crimp

Wow, I bought a Redding profile crimp die for the 454 and tried it out, seems like a very nice die. Of course Redding makes great stuff anyway but it just felt like a winner for the 454.

Anyone ever heard of neck-down crimping?

I use a Lee crimp die for 7.35 Carcano, but that’s with a bullet with a cannelure. Not sure if I’m going to continue using it. Depends on accuracy and consistency of velocity.

Profile crimp on a 454 may be useful to prevent bullet recession in a tubular mag. Will probably reduce brass life.

I use the LFCD for many calibers and like them fine. Also it depends on the bullet design, cannalure vs. non-cannalure. I do my best to rely mostly on neck tension as that is what mostly controls whether or not the bullet stays put or not.
From my understanding the redding profile crimp die is simply a roll crimp with a abrupt taper at the end of it so Im not sure how it will effect brass life. We shall find out.

depends on how much you flare the case mouth.
they done the profile crimp so guys could avoid trimming their cases to the same length.

How does the profile crimp die negate the need to trim cases? Im confused.

it squishes everything instead of simply rolling the case mouth into place.

I bought the very same die, for my Casull noless. Yes, a great die that works great for neckdown crimping those hot, heavy 454 loads.
