Ruger finally released a real lever gun

I don't buy Marlins made after 2000 and I will never pay that much for a Ruger copy of one even though it looks well made. Rugers and Marlins are supposed to be well built and inexpensive but with $750 new Single Sixes and $900 new Blackhawks, inflation has killed prices on everything.

You should really take a long look at JM, Remington and Ruger guns. Rather then post what you have read you'll actually have some experience. Without a doubt Remington and Ruger have made the best Marlins ever made. JM guns were never all that great.

I have a few Marlins. The new one is from 1988. I have a couple from the '50's and one from 1983. Not many Marlins from the '70's-on are desirable to me. So, no...not "jelly". The 336 is the only one being copied by Ruger right now. I doubt Ruger will make a 39A, a 783, or a 22" Model 60 to "repalce" my classics.

Yep, Marlin made bad JM guns for at least a decade before the trash Remington made for a while. That's what I said in the post you quoted. Remington figured it out in time to sell to Ruger. That was not said. Ruger seems to be making good products. I said in the post you quoted too. I have no use for laminate, big loops, fiber sights, or a thick butt pad on a lever gun.

I blamed inflation for the insane prices so your advice is to check out inflation? Thanks.

US$ 1400 today equals around US$ 122 in 1955...

But as the 1955 price was only $68.95 they are somewhat more expensive, today.

gunbroker price was $979.99, compared with the rossi prices I thought that was pretty good.
what sold me on buying the rifle was the fact that ruger did away with micro groove rifling.
The rifling is 6 groove ballard style, 1/20 twist, reports are .430 cast bullets are accurate.
So the groove dia must be .429/.430.
it sounds like they made the groove dia the same as the 44 mag revolver.
I pick up the rifle next week and will slug the barrel first thing.
I ordered a bear tooth saddle ring safety delete and mag follower.
I have some old JM 1894 spare parts, firing pin,carrier,extractor, I will see if they fit.

Not a Mountie but these peanuts were only made one year...1951. Ruger will never make one of these with real steel (Henrys are pot metal and Japan Winchesters are aluminum) and real walnut. They'd have to charge $1200. Even though some would buy, it would make no sense.

About 5 to 10 years ago I bought my first henry.
It is the 22 mag lever rifle, pretty gun.
But I couldnt get past the pot metal and plastic.
This was my first and last henry.
lm sure henry makes a fine gun, just not for me.
Saw a guy on youtube seize up a 45-70 henry with buffalo bore ammo.
Saw a guy on in range tv compare a henry 1860 lever to a uberti.
The henry internal parts were clearly cast parts, while the uberti had machined internals.

Now I came across this article on rifle shooter mag, it says that ruger used the exact same rifling as they do on the Model 77/44 and super blackhawk.
But I will find out for sure.
they said the barrel slugged at .429 on the 94, same as the super blackhawk.

Those Rugers are nice looking levers. I still have an armory of original Marlins, but I'm thinking of starting to thin the herd. My triple fours will not be thinned...I'm taking them with me.
