Glenfield 30GT in 30-30
Here is one I picked up today. I've never seen one before. It is a Glenfield 30GT. 18.5" carbine with straight grip. I added the Lyman. Wood is scarred and scuffed but is not cracked anywhere. Metal is pretty good.
My stepson has a 30A. It has a curved grip with 20" barrel. Not a big fan of the curved grips but the straight grips speak to me.
Of course, caliber is 30-30.

Re: Glenfield 30GT in 30-30
My dad has been hunting with a 30GT for about a decade now. It has a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 scope on it. He really loves the rifle. It is actually my rifle that he took off the rack in my reloading room and never gave it back!
Great Find! The Birch stock on the Genfield series doesn't seem to wear well but I think it the "broomstick" grade finish that Marlin applied to them. It cracks like cheap varnish. My dad is not long from ending his hunting career and when he does I'm going to strip and refinish the stock with a walnut Tru-Oil finish. I asked him about doing it now but he doesn't want anything changed.

Is that walnut Truoil finish a custom finish or do you buy that where you buy regular Truoil?

Just the Tru-Oil that you buy and apply. I've used it on all my Rossi's and it has worked and worn very well. The trick is going to be in getting that Mar-Shield finish off the Glenfield!

"MarSheild" you might try xylene but follow all the many precautions. My late father-in-law was in the finish industry and that was his go to when all else failed. Don't like the stuff but I have used it to strip old finish.

Re: Glenfield 30GT in 30-30
Greetings
I have not knowingly seen a 18.5 incher. That would be a good up close carbine.
20 years ago Glenfields were near give aways as few wanted a used one. Today they are near collectors items.
I have sent two bought at reasonable price to JES over the years to be bored to .375 and .405. Fine rifles. Still am looking for other "rusty bore" Marlin made 30-30's to turn into some other project. Marlin Corp. probably had no idea what a fine rifle they produced to be used for the numerous "other calibers" Marlin never made.

That's pretty good. I love cheap, rusty Marlins…

I got this Marbles sight off a friend and put on the Glenfield. These are great sights.
