But before I take the first shot I will do the strip and clean /smoothing of the internals to remove burs and grease - I understand that the quality control was very poor from the OEM side? Thanks to this forum that I joined I am definitely learning a whole lot about the Rossi RG 30-30. How do I know in what year the rifle was manufactured if the serial no is 5HP156152 ?

Will the Warne QD rings hold zero on the OEM Rossi RG weaver B63 rail ?

Warne makes a quality product. Not to dis the 30-30, but it’s a relatively mild cartridge. I think you’ll have no problems.

That's good to hear Harry .. because the top base of the weaver rail on the Rossi is grooved (too allow visibility of the open sights) I was afraid that the contact area between the Warne QR rings and the top of the rail would not be sufficient and might interfere with the stability of the rings.

Newby question: how do one post a picture in the reply section - Like Phil did ... I tried to "drag and drop" and also tried to use the "upload attachment" but did not get it right - must the picture be below a certain size? I wanted to attach a picture of the weaver rail that is currently on the gun.

This is the usual cause. To me the best way is to host pics and post them via URL.

Posting a link to a Youtube video is not only allowed, it’s highly encouraged. +corn

I just picked up a set of high Warne rings for a Remington 788 and a 6-18x50 AO Swift scope. It’s chambered in 222 Remington, so I have no concerns about recoil. No QD on this one. It’s going to be my only scope-only rig, I think. It’s filling the void between the 22 Mag and the 243.

I'm a big fan of Warne rings.
I probably have them on about a dozen or more rifles from .223 to heavy .30s.
I'd have no hesitation using them on anything I'm likely to shoot including bolt action magnums, .444 Marlin .45-70 or .50 Beowulf.

IF you are going to have a failure it's much more likely to be the OEM rail. I've heard a couple folks had problems with the fasteners pulling through those rails.
