I spoke to the gunsmith last Friday and it appears according to him that after 5 months I may finally get the rifle back this week. Hopefully in time to try it out this weekend :D

After this much time you have to be really excited, looking to see what she looks like.

I hope it turns out everything you wanted and more. I will assume this gunsmith does this as a part time job in the evenings and weekends.

Ironically; this is his only job. I think since he does mass gunsmithing for local police departments he puts small orders like mine for his spare time and focuses on the high revenue accounts or prioritizes those.

Frustrating to say the least.

Can't say I blame him though.
Service like justice hangs on the side of the purse.
Those police department contracts are buttering his bread 52 weeks a year vs a one time job to modify a gun.
One consolation is that you can be certain that this gunsmith is no lackadaisical slouch because if he was the PDs wouldn't let him touch their guns.
When, IF, he ever gets around to doing your gun it will probably be done right.

I finally got my Rio Grande back. It looks and feels like a Mares Gun. Looks like a factory gun and did leave me speechless when I saw how crazy it looks. Sights are perfect and is 31in long
