What is the maximum effective hunting range of the 454 casull out of a 20" barrel without incurring a significant drop.
Using it for hunting large game.

Leaving out the variables....scope, ability and bullet weight. I've talked to few guys who have stated that the average grouping out of the R92 454 casull is anywhere between 3-4 inches a 100yards.
Group sizes only matter on the bench. I don't see that that part makes a difference...because the first bullet is the one that counts when hunting.

You need to group your own rifle and load. Group size is a measure of precision, and is a factor in determining your point blank range. Which large game? The target size is another determining factor.

the 454 is capable of getting real close to the 45-70,, you know depending on bullet weight and which load level your using in the -70.
the 45-70 is capable of killing buffalo at some impressive distances, it's up to the user to know the rainbow.

just throwing that out there because it applies to the 454.
if you wanna throw a 300gr bullet your load then becomes 'capable' of killing an Elk at 300yds. simply because of the weight of the bullet.
shooting it in the ass doesn't apply... LOL.

I dont have a 454 casull but given acceptable optics, accurate load development, heavy load I would consider it concievable to take big game to 200 yards. Not sure if big means buffalo, certainly big antlered animals at least. Just basing this off 444marlin running the same power levels.

Accuracy wise Ive used my 44 mag rossi to 150 yards max on large hogs. It has a Vortex scout scope, load was a 200XTP at chronographed 2000fps( hornady custom factory ammo) which shot about 2.5-3" groups at 100 yards so it was a good load for my gun.

With a 454 Casull delivering 1937 fps with a 300 grain bullet, the max Point Blanc Range is 167 Yards, with a kill zone radius, of 2"
Recommended Zero is 144 Yards and bullet will be 2" high at 100 yards.
Near Zero is 26 yards.
This is with a scope height, of 2"
Data calculated with Strelok Pro.

And I think you can expand that killzone radius too, also try a faster, tougher bullet and get a nother couple dozen yards out of it.

Depending on quite a few conditions, I don't think I would push it out past 100 yards or so.

Each to his own. The way I see it the 454 casull can equal factory ballistics of the 444 marlin and thats not a 100 yard only gun.

I can take hogs and large deer to 100 yards with basic 44 mag factory loads... A 454 or 444 with 300 grain Swift at 2050fps is a totally different ballpark.
