So, a few years ago I modded my 357 to accept the 1/10 inch longer 360 an Wesson cartridge. I had to keep trimming the cartridge guides to get the longer round to get up through there. That eventually made the gun where it did not feed regular 357 rounds with any reliability at all. It was a struggle ! And forget 38 specials completely.
I wanted to get some new cartridge guides, but kept putting off trying to do that because of the struggle getting parts from Rossi. I read that it's a lot better now days. Well recently I have started sand casting belt buckles (I'm working on a Rossi Rifleman one now). I have a big pile of copper wire in my shop where I throw the removed wire from old electric RC racing boat motors That I rewind for more power. I've done a couple thousand of them so far and even though they don't have much wire in them, a couple thousand and the copper pile was getting pretty big. I came up with the idea of the buckles as a way to make use of the scrap wire. I mix a little tin in with the copper to make bronze. I've tried dimes and quarters to get a more silver looking buckle, and also nickels to get the shiny and non tarnishing finish.
Getting back to the rossi though. I decided to see if I could cast a part with the detail and small size of the cartridge guides. I have a second 92 in 357 that I had not screwed up, but had smoothed and polished the guides on. So I used those as the pattern to make the sand mold with. I was amazed at the detail that the sand would pick up. That's the good part, but the dimensions are all over the place because of shrinkage and then sometimes the part is to big in places.
But I did manage to cast a few that were close enough that I could do some filing and smoothing and make a workable set from. To my surprise, it now works like it's supposed to with full length 357s and 38 specials!

Top one is the steel factory one, and the others are the ones I cast.
