By rights the Casull casings should not fit. There's more to it than just a loose bullet leade. The casings for the Casull rounds are longer.

And given the massively different pressure do you really want to shoot full power Casull rounds in a gun proofed for the measly pressure of a .45Colt? I know that for one I sure would not want my face near to such a thing.

The quality of the barrel metal has been a frequent topic. But just because they supply models in the three magnum level pressures does not mean that the 45Colt barrel is made from the same stuff.

I have a .454 and I couldn't agree with BCRider more. I have shot .45 LC in the .454 and there is no mistaking the difference in the oomph between the two. There is no way I'm laying my cheek 6 inches from that chamber with a fully loaded .454 on a rifle stamped .45 LC and hoping that its the same. Worse, your failure might not come on shot one or two, but the metal fatigue builds as does your confidence that it will work. You could be playing Roulette with your face... Will the next shot be the one... How bad would you feel if it was your buddy or family member that pulled the trigger when the number finally hits?

Is there any possibility to find the information "from the first hand" - to ask the dealer or manufacturer about the construction difference in .45 and .454?

Im sure you could but no one currently working there would put their job on the line and risk liability by telling you to go for it

Considering that SAAMI specifically lists .454 Casull in a .45 Colt firearm as an unsafe combination, no manufacturer in their right mind will say that it's ok.

From a practical standpoint, .45 Colt is an old blackpowder cartridge that's rated to 14,000 CUP, while .454 Casull is a modern smokeless cartridge that's rated to 60,000 CUP.

That's not just risky, it's a nomination for a Darwin Award.

Why do you have a burning desire to do this? You said that you already have a 92 in .454.

From practical point of view it would be OK to produce two rifles with minimum construction changes.

In the end it's a moot point anyway since the .454 casing is roughly .10" longer so it won't fit in the .45 Colt chamber. Or at least it should not fit. The whole point of making the casings on the "magnum" versions longer is to avoid just what you're considering doing here.
