I doubt I get it because I have ar15 rifles. It's still cool a 5.56 chambered leveraction. I just wish they use side gate loading. Instead of magazine loading.

Still might be a good rifle to have if your already setup for 5.56 reloading.
Wonder if it would feed flat nose bullets and such.
Be versatile if it did.
Work up some small game loads and some heavier loads for larger game.

Pointy bullets. No tubular magazines allowed.

Small magazine size, i think if i were shooting 5.56 out of something covered in wood id opt for a mini-14

OTOH this Henry rifle chambered in 308 would make it a cheapish BLR i think and with a decent optic a nice reach-out rifle for elk or Coues or something

Well you could go with a rotary that fed like a Krag maybe?
That said, I've got a .308 BLR and the magazine doesn't bother me except for the cost of spares/replacements and the fact that as a hunting weapon and a lever it holds 4 and extended mags are not an option.

I will say that I'm not too wild about the Long Ranger's mag release being a totally exposed button on the side of the receiver that looks like if you laid it down on the RHS would drop the mag on it's own.

I had been considering a Long Ranger chambered in 308 Win to replace my Savage 11 Scout. They are available locally; it is a heck of a rifle both in design and finish. I'm not a fan of the BLR look, when considering the "modern" levergun, the Savage 99 or Winchester 88 is about as "slick" as I can go. I have a post about deciding to go with the 99. Once I had it, I shortly had another in 300 Savage. Two for the price of a Long Ranger.

As far as the function goes, I think you can load any bullet profile in the magazine and from their into the rifle. I cannot see how the magazine release could accidentally unseat the magazine; it takes a very positive pressure.
