Shot this fellow at 2:30 am under a feeder light. 70-yards, DRT. Using my C311-170-RF pushed with 30.6-grains of H4895 for 2080 FPS. The "smack" of that flat point hitting the hog was a loud as the shot!

Not that I want the pigs on my farm in Ohio, but I envy your ability to get a new gun and then have a ready source of targets to go out and test it on...

And people say the 30-30 is useless and underpowered.
30-30 be my favorite cartridge.
It sure put that big hog right down.
I ordered this mold from midway yesterday.

UPS dropped it off this morning.
I hope it performs as well as your C311-170-RF .

It ought to. I personally think that about a 72% meplat is optimum and as much weight as possible to push the "cookie cutter" through.

Honestly, the 30-30 Win is about optimal for my part of Texas and the range our habitat affords. I could throw some others as well; 32 Win Spl, 35 Rem, 375 Win and 38-55 Win, plus the 7.62x39.

Thank you RD.
About the same here in southeast KY.
Lots of heavy timber and thick brush
30-30, then 44 mag be second favorite for around here.

you know 30-30 is one of the blah calibers for me, but that doesn't mean I don't give it proper respect. Lots of meat on the table from 30-30s, and add another few dozen pounds of pork :D

I like .30-30. It's got limitations but it also has a lot of good points especially in the eastern woodlands I grew up among.

30-30 has a lot of versatility.
you can load up to 190/200 gr for big dangerous game.
And then take a 32 caliber (45 gr) round ball and load down for squirrel or rabbit.
