I do not now know if someone is after a 44 magum lever gun, but I saw this Marlin

Honestly, if I was not such a wimp and preferred 357 (I am too delicate), I would seriously consider it. Why? Because it reminds me of one of my favourite movies,

Buy it, and shoot 44 Specials.

I'd much rather spend another $120 and get a real Marlin with all metal parts and finer finished wood. To each their own.

Is that not a Marlin?

Marlin hasn't made a gun in 8 years.

I see it the same way. That is not a Marlin, it is a Remington. I've heard that Marlin has gone to plastic on their barrel bands and other parts but I didn't follow up with it as I just don't have any interest in them.

I do have a safe full of real Marlins and they are fine rifles. I have the 1894P which is a 44 Mag Outfitter/Guide Gun. Mine is dressed up with the XS Sight System using a Weaver K4 Classic Scout. It is an outstanding rifle.

When it comes to new, I'd buy a Henry Steel or the Rossi.

Plastic barrel bands are crap even when Ruger did it with the 10/22.

I'd swear some of the Browning model 92s I've examined at gunshows had plastic barrel bands and that's one reason I never ended up with one of them.

My Remlin 45-70 does not have plastic barrel bands.

Sometimes non-ferrous metal is used. That's worse than space age polymer.

My 10/22 isn't old and has no plastic aside of the safety plunger maybe.
