I think I read a comment here about Ranch Dog not liking 4227 at all. If I am correct, what is it exactly about 4227 that Mr. Dog does not like?

I have shot three powders across all my 92s; 4227, H110, & Lil'Gun. 4227 delivers the lowest velocities. Here is a chart from my results.

Not only are the velocities higher with choices other than 4227, so is the accuracy. The 92 is cursed with a 1:30 rate of twist. For any given bullet weight, the faster it shoots, the tighter the groups it will shoot.

As a QuickLoad user, I can also look at different performance levels of a given powder. In these cartridges, 4227 is not efficient as the others. H110 and Lil'Gun only blows about 2% of the charge out the barrel unburnt. 4427, about 18%. So 1/5th of the charge doesn't ignite. That unburnt powder seems like a waste.

In my area, 4227 is one powder that always seems to be on the shelf, it and leveRevolution. I think there are reasons for that.

I have 4 lbs of H4227, and a year or two ago I started shooting it in my Rossi 351 revolver. In that role, it does well, but the velocity and efficiency are still low. My intent is to shoot that powder up with this revolver. I just made a deal for another Load-Master progressive press, so I will put it to the task of providing the cartridges in order to burn this powder up!

Greetings
Tried 4227 in the 41 mag, 375 Supermag and the 414 supermag (all DW revolvers and Contenders) and it never was as good as H110 or 296.
One place it does work well is in Duplex loading under 860 in rifle cases. Will get 860 up to speed launching a heavy cast bullet in good form whatever the caliber from .30 and up. Have not tried this in any cases under 308.
But when I run out there will be no mad rush to get more.
