And the reason for the primer change?

archer, the primer change is because I'm having problems seating the Winchester primer in the NEW Starline cases. One is every 5 to 7 requires so much force that it dents the primer. I'm using the older style Lee Ergo-Prime tool. I'm hoping the CCI primers will fix this problem.

I'm still using a pre Ergo, pre two step Lee hand primer.
Sounds like the primer pockets may need swaging and/or uniforming.

That is strange. As a primer pocket reamer and uniformer, I've find that Starline are the best. No need to uniform the flash hole either. That said I have questions about their 454 Casull brass, as to why mine failed on the second loading but I need to do the CSI when I have time.

I didn't have a single issue with the CCI primers when I loaded 10 test rounds. BUT, I used cleaned, "once fired" cases, so who knows. I'll keep you posted.

I finally had the chance to shoot my new loads with the case trimmed 1.260 and OAL of 1.620. I used cases that had been fired once with these warmer loads. The 22.0 gr matched my previous 22.3 grains of H-110 exactly in muzzle velocity of 1499 fps. Cases and primers showed no signs of pressure, with the exception of one case that was actually loaded at 21.5 grain which had short, hair-line crack of the crimp.

The penetration was a couple inches less than previous test at the same velocity. I attribute that to my rush to out run an approaching with the mixture of sawdust and water. I think my mix was a little harder, because the same velocity bullet had a little less penetration, expansion and weight retention.

Tomorrow, I will trim a few New cases and load them with 22.0, 22.3 and 22.5 grains of H-110. Hopefully, I get to shoot them on Saturday.
