They did have a high pressure 1892 ONLY load that was probably a bit better than a cheap slingshot.
Winchester puts out a 200 grain pill that lists a muzzle velocity of 1190 BTW.
Of course it is still a rainbow at 200 yards and they don't publish the drop beyond 300...

Looks like they produced a load in the 90s for the Marlins, although I think a bud of mine said Winchester sold him some for the 92 around that time as well. Claimed he had to sign an affidavit for it.

Even though the .44 Mag out of a rifle lists 1600 FPS it's still a bit of a push at any real range.
