Night Light

Beautiful full moon tonight.
500 yard field visibility with good binoculars.

If there was a low/1500 foot overcast, the visibility with binoculars would be down to only 250 yards.

On the other hand, even with no moon but with a 6000 foot overcast,
the visibility would still be be about 400 yards due to nearby city lights
providing light reflected off the clouds.

As you might guess, there are no hogs in sight at the moment.
However, there was recent digging in a few nearby areas.
And the night is young.

Hope springs eternal.

160 yard shot.
Sow was about 120 lbs.
CZ 527 7.62x39
Tulammo 154 gr SP

The 154 grain soft point really makes a nice loud THUNK sound at impact.
There's no doubt about the shot when you hear that sound.

Good deal! Another rooter bites the dirt!

Yeah it does! My Savage 10FCM Scout really likes that ammo but the hogs hate it!

What kind of optic are you using -- I have one of those .762x39 CZ's and I am curious

Charlie, it's a Bushnell Banner 3x9.

Nice shot, and nice sow! I have a 3-9 x 40 Banner on a Mauser 98, and I love it. It's the Muzzle Loader version that has a long (6 inch) eye relief, which is just what I needed for the old Williams High Over Center scope mount on that rifle. I've only taken two feral hogs in my time, but they were both with this rig.

I could go for a nice CZ in another half dozen calibers.
I've got the 308 Varmint and the .30-06 American.

Nice, meat for the freezer, and one less sow spewing out litters.
