I have three of my design; 250, 275, & 300 grain. I actually prefer the 300 for my hunting. I'm going to use the 275 this year simply because I have them cast and ready to go.

240gr cast rnfp.
I have used Elmer's old 429241 in my 92 a time or two, but have come to use rnfps for just about everything they just get the job done.

I was wondering if Hornadys 240 gr XTP would be a good bullet for deer hunting in norther Wis. I am thinking of working up a load with them, as I have a couple boxes. I'll use them in my 20in bbl R-92.

Ole Timer where in Wis are you at I'm in S.E. wis in Burlington.

Hey Barracudadave67 My son in law use hornady 240gr. hollow point for deer hunting in a ruger 44 mag with 6 inch barrel. Had a red dot on it could put six shots in a paper plate at 100 yds. He went through a lot of reloads that summer. He does not have that setup anymore. I shot some of them loads in the rossi 44 at 100 yds. and had a 5 shot group in a 3 inch circle. Still need to adjust sights it shot low and to the right. Hope this give you some food for thoughts. Happy shooting. +guns

That's good to know about the XTPs. I', going to work up a good load for them, and the same in .45 Colt. haven't decided which will be my main rifle yet, so I'll get them both ready to take to deer camp. We go up to Vilas county along the Michigan boarder. Bucks only still up there tho. kinda sucks, but it wont be crowded.

My hunting bullet is a Montana Gold 240 grain jacketed soft point. As far as handgun calibers go, I use hollow points for self defense rounds, but not hunting. Semi-wadcutters are a close second choice for hunting. A little more weight and a little better penetration beats expansion, I think. A .44 is making a big hole already.

240 xtphp is what I use in modern rifle and muzzleloader. Always a quick kill. I load both in the 1700 fps range

as much as I love cast bullets, I've found ever since I started loading for my R92 44 mag that the 240 gr XTP's seem to always outperform everything else in the accuracy department.
