Rossi Rifleman

Well we were going to go up to the cabin today before I took off for two week. However, some of the kids are sick so we stayed home. This did give me a chance though to finish the recoil pad. It wasn't hard and took about 30 minutes to do. It grinds easily, but you have to use a slow speed or it will "tear" instead of "sand". I used a 3/4" pad and it added about 1/2" to the overall length of pull.

Range Report:

So I went out to the back yard and fired some hot 44 magnum rounds (max end of the loading range according to the books) as well as some mild 44 magnum rounds (starting loads for 44 mag according to the books).

The mild rounds felt like I was shooting 38 specials. The hot rounds still had a good recoil to them, but they didn't hurt (they used to). No sign of bruising and no pain.

I'm not sure if the Kick-EEZ Sorbothane will have heat issues or not. Their web site says that you can boil them in water for 3 minutes (212 degrees) without hurting them. That is a lot hotter than the 150 degrees that Pachmayr states Sorbothane will melt at. Maybe Kick-EEZ has a little more heat resistant material than LimbSaver. I don't know.

Overall I'd say that the Kick-EEZ pad on a Rossi 92 is a good solution. At least it is an option for those looking to put a recoil pad on their 44 magnums and 45 Colts.

Re the "melting" of recoil pads.Not wanting to start anything,but if you read almost all of the complaints coming from people using gun cabinets ,or safes.I wonder is the culprit is a combination of heat and petroleum carbons floating around.I have been using Limbsavers since the mid '90's and have never had any issue.I now have two Kickeze on my Rossi's .In addition I put my rifles,shotguns in the safe muzzle down.I stole it from a old time gun writer named Carmichael. Just my 2c,and take it for what it cost ya. Doug

Wow, it's been two years since I installed the recoil pad. Time flies. Just as an update, it is still holding up well. No sign of deterioration or melting in the recoil pad. I've taken some game with it since the installation and it is a pleasure to shoot now.

Do you have the part or model number of the pad you used?

Kick-EEZ part number 301-6-L-B. It is 2" X 5 5/8" X 3/4".
