You know I haven't seen Jurassic World yet so I can't comment much on that although now that you mention it I think maybe I saw the character carrying a carbine in one of the previews.

As for TRex or other dinosaur hunting I think I liked David Drake's Time Safari.

My 1886 has the full crescent buttplate and it's never been an issue. You mount the rifle more on the arm than the collar bone like you would a more modern weapon. I've heard it said the style worked well for shooting from horseback but I'm not certain I believe it. That said I MIGHT have gotten my Rossi 92 Octagonal .44 in part because the guy who bought it might not have realized how the buttplate was supposed to fit on the arm and he might not have gotten comfortable with it at the range.

Ruger 96/44. Action based on the Savage 99. 1:20 twist rate. Integral scope mounts that take an optional aperture sight. Mag feed. 18-1/2 inch barrel, so no need to argue about 16 or 20 inches. Integral sling mounts. Only wish it were stainless.

I would have said a .45 colt was it, but, I'm afraid that the .41 mag has joined the list as well smh

an extra $600 for the barrel and cylinder fluting, so looking at close to $2000.00.

Sure its expensive, but you gotta think the fact that its no doubt handier than the 4570 BFR comes free of charge

I can go for the cylinder fluting.
Not sure I'd bother with fluting the barrel on a revolver although I did go that route on one or more of my ARs.

I got an email from Ace at MCA sports up in Anchorage.
I asked him about his 30-30 adapters.
He has 30-30 cartridge adapters in the following cartridges,
22lr
22 mag
32 short
32 long
32 H&R mag
32 ACP
30 carbine.
One of each, with shipping would run about $145.00

I compared my colt walker to the standard BFR.
the standard BFR weighs about 8 oz or so more then the colt walker, and the colt walker is a heavy revolver.
The length is about the same with the 7.5" BFR and the walker.
So i was thinking if I had all the fluting done that could be done, it could bring the weight down a bit.
make it easier for carrying.
I dont like the fluted barrel either, but i can live with it if it makes for easier in handling.

Yes and No...
The one I'm thinking of is a 16" double fluted White Oak match barrel. The standard GI profile is actually lighter because it's a lighter profile from the gas block to the upper receiver but this barrel is lighter than an unfluted match barrel (using the same medium length gas system) most of which are based on the A2 profile. It is easier to handle than a standard match barrel or A2 contour of the same length but it is not particularly easier to handle than a pencil barrel or a standard G.I. barrel. Because there's more meat in the barrel from the gas block to the receiver the balance is different from a G.I. profile.

I have a couple other fluted match AR barrels and they have similar characteristics.
IF I ever catch the same kind of deal on the White Oak SDM barrel that I got on the 16" one I'll be all over it.
It's a sweet shooting rifle.

Magnum research charges $200 for the barrel fluting.
No doubt it would reduce the weight some, but may not be enough to notice.
But if i want to reduce the overall weight, including the cylinder fluting, every bit would help.
