Concerning those 157 Badman bullets, loaded in a 357 case in the crimp grove, what's the OAL?

Also that's amazingly clean shooting ammo in your pic of the patches. I have never cleaned with acetone, what is the benefit over other solvents?

I don't know. I loaded all that I had (50) in 360 cases. I didn't even measure them as I think that they are about the same as the NOE 180 bullet is. And because of the more pointy nose, I knew that they should feed a lot easier.

I can measure one if you need me to but I think that the nose, forward of the crimp groove, was right at the .300" mark, like the majority of 357 bullets are held at. If so that would put it just under 1.600".

Aw heck. Now I'm curious and might as well go out into the cold and measure one. I'll let you know in a little bit.

I forgot to answer bout the acetone.

The main befit is that I have a gallon of it sitting right there on the bench. I use it for clean up a lot as I make fiberglass model boat hulls and acetone is a good cheap solvent for the polyester resin. Laquer thinner, paint reducer, mineral spirits, WD40, heck even gasoline would do the same thing I bet. I have just sprayed a shot of silicone spray in the bore and run a patch through it before the solvent dries. That way I'm cleaning and protecting at the same time

But I'm guessing that what you really mean is why I use acetone instead of "normal" gun cleaning solvents, right?

Well, I have no need for the copper removing aspect of the normal stuff, as I dont shoot a lot of jacketed bullets. When I clean a rifle that shoots bottle neck and jacketed bullets I DO use it.

But the powder coating is so clean shooting that the only residue left behind is a little soot from the burning powder. And without the greasy oily waxy lube on the bullets, that gets vaporizer at firing. And then mixes with that soot, and finds it's way into every nook and cranny to dry out and harden into a form of "concrete". All I have to clean is that little bit of soot, and it is dry and powdery and is real easy to wipe off. If it does start to build up, I give it a spray with brake or carb cleaner and blow it out with air.

Yep the bullets measure right at .300 for the nose.

My loaded 360s are 1.716" OAL. The brass is 1.412" so that leaves .304" for the bullet.

So add that to 357 brass @ 1.280 and your gonna end up at 1.584" . Perfect for a 357 OAL.

Glad to hear those bullets will fit the OAL in the 357. Figured they would but was curios as I ordered some two days ago. Sorry you had to go out in the cold. Shot 20 of the SNS 130's yesterday in a 357 case and 5.3gr of 231. I confirmed the zero off a rest and shot the remaining rounds offhand at 100. Seemed to shot really well, at least they went wherever the rifle was aimed when it went off! Not always on the gong but it was really windy and hard to hold still. Anyway they cleaned up with a couple of patches. Seems like the perfect compromise between tradition lead bullets and jacketed for most of my shooting.

Also thanks for the info on the acetone. Don't know if you shoot any black powder. I clean my Sharps bore with Windex with vinegar, works great. Of course I oil it before putting it away.

good to see more success with the sns 130's. mine arrived yesterday. didn't realize they shipped in such a small box. tried to lift it and failed at first. was wondering if someone had shipped me a black hole. brass and press are on-time for end of day delivery. looks like a fun weekend ahead.

I may give them another try one day, but I really need a good reason to do so....like you telling me that they were super accurate with your load!

I had put a scope on the gun at the time I was shooting these, and while the target did not look so good at 100 yards. I was able to hit some fist size rocks on the 115 yard berm, maybe 50% hits. So that aint bad, but should be better. But like I said, I think the problem was my powder load and I did not have enough bullets (or incentive) to load any different. I was hoping, that I could throw them into a case with anything behind them, and they would like MAGIC, be the most accurate thing I had ever shot in my entire life! That never works but I can dream, can't I.

It seems that this bullet is "aimed" at cowboy style shooting where the targets are not all that far away, but are steel and require a little weight to knock over(?). But the nose profile is such because reliable feeding is much more important than anything else for this style of shooting. One hang up and you loose.

You hit the nail squarely on the head with the "best compromise" statement. EVERYTHING is usually a compromise of some sort. And for the ease of use and clean up afterwards, and the good accuracy. That Lee 125 coated bullet is hard to beat for a plinking round, in the Rossi.

I shoot very little black powder. Maybe 50 rounds every 4-5 years. I have some 45 colt and 32-20 cartridges made up with it just to show young folks what it use to be like. I hate clean up afterwards!
