I told ya they would do well!

Sounds like when you get it sorted out, you might be shooting under two inches.

Yes forgot to say thanks for the suggestion Don. These look like the ticket, will probably have to get a mold from Lee. Can't wait to try them on a calm day and I'm also curious how they will do at higher velocities. I'll keep you posted but it will be after Christmas before I can shot some more.

Have you ever tried the Lee 158 RNFP? Looks similar to the Ranch Dog 175gr just a slightly shorter/lighter version. If I could shoot it fast enough it might be a contender. One person on another forum reported good accuracy with that bullet and 16gr H110 at 100yds.

It sounds like you coat your bullets yourself. What do you use?

Thanks

I've shot a lot of the Lee 158 gr RNFP's in my revolvers the past 4-5 years (bought the mold for a buddy the casts). In the 2-3 range trips I've made with my most recently acquired 16" R92, that bullet over 13.0 gr of AA#9 (which is now over the newer max load specs) has been the most accurate of the few various bullet profiles I've had a chance to try - but haven't had a chance to put them through the chrony. Oddly enough ( actually, probably not so unusual), SWC's of various makes have always shot more accurately from my short barreled revolvers and the (almost) free Lee RNFP's have taken a back seat .... not so as it appears so far in the R92. I have a lot more 'spearminting to do with the R92, but for now that RNFP is the current benchmark to beat. And no plans to shoot any copper stuff in this one.

What is the longest range that you are getting good accuracy with those Lee 158 rnfp and accurate number 9 out of the M92?

My BN36 doesn't know the difference in the RNFP and the SWC....neither does the R92.

I still use full house slow powder loads but I don't shoot 100 at a time so maybe leading or something causes problems for someone else....not me.

JD, let's get you casting. If I can do it, dern sure you can. My Lee 90303 drops nice parts and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Cheyenne .... I've only shot it a couple times for function testing and used the home cast Lee bullet, RimRock SWC's and Bayou Bullet SWC's, mostly at 25 yards and tinkering with the rear sight. The Lee's were consistently grouping around 1 inch off of a very loose bench rest, where the others were closer to 1-1/2 to 2 inch. But this was a 3 year old "never fired" barrel that obviously needs a couple hundred rounds to smooth out and settle in. I haven't even fired it since smoothing the internals and refinishing the wood, and haven't replaced the cheesy Rossi rear sight elevator with the Daisy pellet gun elevator yet.

GG .... lol about the idea of me getting into casting. I bought the mold for my buddy, and scrounge lead occasionally .... and give him brass (for what I don't need), and he "gives" me finished bullets. Dude, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free  . And, IF I had the time and money to start casting, I would have the time and money to get back to the home brewing .... :)

4090,

Seems like I have shot those 125s at 15-1600, and they were still doing ok. At 2300 they did not do to well. HA, Imagine that!

I have that Lee 158rf mold and have shot a good many of the bullets. I have bad mouthed it a couple times for not being accurate in my gun. But I ran across an old target the other day where I had used that bullet, and the grouping was very good with a few different loads. I think the bullet is fine and several others on here seem to think so too.

You should not have any trouble getting it up to speed. Lots of powder out there that will move it along well. I love 300MP cause it has shown me so very good velocities with mid to heavier bullets. Not worth a toot with light ones though.

I do powder coat my own bullets. I use a Harbor Freight electrostatic gun and get powder from powder by the pound. I do not think there is any brand that is much better than the next, other than The HF powder is not so great. It does not have the quality of the others.
At our clubs rocket launch last Saturday,(I fly high power rockets sometimes) There was a new guy in the club that offered to bring me 20-50 pounds of left over powder. He works at a powder coating company and this powder is what was not used up on a job. He sez it has a shelf life that they wont use it after because of their product grantee. He sez that they probably have a few hundred pounds of powder that will be out of date soon and he'll bring me some of each color. Sez he'll bring me his old bullet molds too cause he does not cast anymore. So.... +corn

Not really, That's why I put the little guy eating popcorn on there.

I have heard this sort of comments before, only to find out that, it never happens. I'll believe it when I have the powder in my hands.
