One thing that I forgot to mention. Machine screws are threaded clear to the head. Grind the threads off except at the end of the screw. You do not need the rest of the threads. They will rub against the bottom of the barrel and make it hard/impossible to line up the screw with the threaded portion of the band.

While I was at it, I beveled the "butt plate" edges and re-blued it. It was actually quite sharp. Now it feels much more refined and polished. Since I had to do some wood work on the forestock, I sanded down both pieces of wood and re-stained them. They are drying now and should be ready for the top coats in the morning.

Back together again (for now). It still needs a scope rail and the rest of the "action job". Those will have to wait for a bit though. It's amazing how gunky these things are when you first take them apart. However, once you finish cleaning them, replacing a few minor parts and taking care of all the detail work, they are really nice guns. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like them though. They definitely take some time and attention to go from good to great.

I never have gotten around to seeing how much it would be to drill and tap the Ranch Hand for optics, so I finally just ordered a Pearson's rail. It showed up today. The springs for the action job will be here this week as well, so I will put it all together at the same time.

Done. The hardest part about mounting the Pearson's rail is fitting the dovetail block. It took quite a bit of filing, but that is better than it being too small. It's not as sleek as the NOE rail, but since the Ranch Hand isn't already drilled and tapped, it is a really good alternative. Quality looks to be very nice on it as well. Overall I'd say it was a good product and a good option.
