My dad thinks that I should get a Ruger LCR in 357 and put bird shot in the first hole. From a practicality stand point it makes a lot of sense, but I have a hard time buying a black plastic gun. I'd rather buy a Bond arms to go with the Super Blackhawk.
I've seen 4 Bond Arms shorties in the case at a local dealer.
They are heavy and don't fit my hand well. They have been shot and the previous owner absolutely disliked the .45 Colt more than anything he'd shot in a while. I would much rather have a GP100 or even a SP101 or even the Ruger LCR than any or all of the Bond Arms in that case.

As for Grizzly, I'd be thinking 12g with slugs like my bud's daughter is issued by the gooberment types when she's prowling Alaska or a 45-70 or MAYBE .444 carbine. IF I just had to go handgun it would be a 629 with a 4 to 6 inch barrel.

Sorry for a quick derail
when my youngest brother was learning to hunt (I am 10 years older)
He packed a marlin 30/30, a 22 rifle and a 410, so he would be ready for anything
He was 10 or 11 and wouldn't listen

I would not recommend the Ranch Hand, I have one and find it awkward to shoot, that is why I will put a full stock on mine (perfectly legal in Canada)

I would use a walking staff for the snakes, and concentrate on something for the larger predators

I really don't think there is such a thing that could fill all these needs with a single cartridge. Me I would worry about the big stuff first. Here is keeping it in the Rossi lineup.
  • Rio Grande 45-70 pushing 525-grain Beartooth Pile Drivers for the dude with the hump between its shoulder.
  • Same rifle with 350 to 425-grain bullets for anything with hooves.
  • Traps around the cabin for all the stuff that scares the ladies.
  • Rossi Single Shot chambered in 410 for all the little stuff around the cabin that traps won't catch.
  • A good beam light for the skunks. You can lead them away from the cabin by directing them with the light. They won't spook & spray. They are also pretty smart too, usually they won't come back. Old timers taught me this.

Good idea about the beam light for skunks. I'll give that one a try.

If you are interested
last weekend my 3 dogs got sprayed by a skunk
I found a formula for removing the smell off of the Internet and it worked well
2 of them only required 1 bath each and the other needed 2 baths

You might post that recipe. I've told my dog "its a bullet to the head" if she gets sprayed. So far that seems to have worked.
