Peep sights on a take down model 92
Hello all, been a lurker on this great site for a while now and really enjoy coming here.
I have a Take Down Winchester model 92 (Miroku) in .45 Colt with a 16 inch octagonal barrel - which I love.
My eyes are not so good any more beyond 50 yards, I have been thinking of putting a peep sight on it.
My only concern is being a take down-is there much chance of changes in point of impact when re-attaching the barrel? The rifle is tight and only used for hunting so has only fired around 500 rounds.
I shoot mostly factory low pressure loads for most of my hunting, but for bigger pigs and deer I use a stout load of Lil gun and a 300gn air cooled WW.
Appreciate any advice I get. Take care and good shooting to you all

Welcome to the forum! I suspect that things go back together quite nicely.

Thank you for the welcome Ranch Dog, I hope it is a solution to my eye sight issues. I have a Williams foolproof on my Win 94 and can focus well enough with that set up.

Try Skinner's barrel mounted peep. It works far better than I ever thought it would. Mine works well enough that I am no longer thinking of messing with the bolt mounted peep option.

Thank you Maximumbob54, is the Skinners located in the rear dovetail? I was thinking a longer sight plane would be best-but I will give it a go if I can get one out here in Australia. I might try to make one?

About half way down the page:

I have one mounted on my 16" .357 and need to mount another one on my 20" .44 but I want to pick up a couple of tools first.
I will admit the model that sets close to the eye is probably faster to use though.

Thanks for the link. Could you post a pic or link me to one. The picture on Skinner's website is a close up which is good but I'd like to see what the entire rifle looks like. I think I might prefer something on the tang, way far back but I'm weighing options.Maximumbob54 wrote:

This is the only pic I have right now.
I think a cantilever mount might be able to have a peep farther back but I'm not aware of anyone offering that as an option. I did also add a smaller front sight that covers less of the target but the factory sight would still work.

That's helpful and looks nice. My front blade is very thin.
I probably won't mess with sights much until I try it out. Right now I'm focused on function and looks, then I'll make sure it actually does what I want.

I have Winchester's Miroku 1886 TD and as you say it is tight and I'd not hesitate to trust a peep on it.
