Problem With The Buckmark Slide Sticking

I really like this Browning .22LR, very accurate but you do have to be
very careful placing your finger on the trigger. It's really soft, I'd
almost call it a hair trigger. But knowing that you just put your brain
in gear and be careful to keep it pointed down range. That's not the
problem.

The problem is after the pistol has been stored awhile I can't rack the
slide. Yesterday I got the RO to rack it and after the first time it's fine.
It seems like the mating surfaces of the slide and barrel are so perfectly
machined they " stick ".

I do use Mobil One ... sparingly ... and wonder if the minuscule amount
that may remain on those surfaces is the culprit ? I'm almost tempted to
put a toothpick between them before putting the gun away.

Anyone have a similar problem ? Ideas definitely welcome ... Jim

Oh, this only happens with the Browning, not a problem with the Bersa's
or Sig.

I've only had this problem years ago when I used to swear by WD40 for everything. It's pretty bad about leaving a sort of sticky varnish behind. I've used auto trans fluid but not any motor oil in guns so I don't know if any motor oils leave a varnish.

We've got two Buckmark Silhouettes from way back and don't recall that problem. I used Gunslick sparingly on the slides and they seemed okay. Mobil One being synthetic shouldn't leave anything but slick behind. I'll be interested in any findings and solutions.

Maybe the ole man is just weak ?

This has happened to me more than several times and it's kind of
embarrassing to ask someone to rack your pistol. Might try using
some Hoppe's on those surfaces.

In fact I'm gonna do that right now !!! If I can rack it ;) , might
have to ask the wife for help.

Oh yeah, another rainy day in SC ... Jim

If it were me next time out, first thoroughly clean it i mean the hammer , the sear the disconnect, clean everything like it was a white glove test by your armorer before turn in to armory. Then relube it mobile synthetic shouldnt be causing this it's so slick. After this shot 500 or more rounds through her then repeat clean her out again relube put up and check on later to see if it's still happening. I'm thinking she's not broken in yet, and just needs good cleaning and lube until mating surfaces are fully married together. However this is only true if it is a new gun or old gun with low round count. Keep us posted to your findings.

Well it racked just fine after only sitting for a day.

With the scarcity of .22LR for so long I suppose the Buckmark
could be considered having a low round count.

What did surprise me was how dirty the Q-tip with the Hoppe's
was after wiping down those surfaces. I usually don't "miss" those
areas ?

Stay tuned ... Jim

The paperwork that came with my High Standard back in 1972 says to clean it when necessary with KEROSENE. I've often noted that Hoppe's seems to smell like there's some Kerosene in it.

I have become a great believer in Slip2000 EWL in that it does NOT tack up and is pretty insensitive to temperature.

I've never had any issues with my Smith 41, Ruger MKIIs, High Standard or my buddy's BuckMark with the slide sticking. I DO need to replace the trigger/sear spring on the High Standard but that's because it was/is weak when I acquired it.

In the past I've used Gunslick and Tetra on slide rails with very good results.
I have also used Tri-Flow bicycle chain lube.

I do NOT like RemOil.
WD40 is for use as cosmoline ONLY that is only when you are looking for a moisture displacing layer to be removed quickly OR to be allowed to SET into a VARNISH like consistency should it be applied to ANYTHING.

Dang...I use CLP and RemOil depending on need. I like them over M1 because I'm kinda lazy sometimes and I like the aerosol. In cases were people use M1, I use Wahl trimmer oil....because it's what I have that's handy. I do have a qt of M1 on the bench too...it gets used four pour/soak operations mostly.

I actually do use WD40, but only to dissolve some substances....then it's cleaned off.

Not to be contrary but to offer my opinion....I'd clean it with CLP, lightly coat it with RemOil, then wipe it down.
