I had 357 Mag with 6 1/2" barrel. My loads were with 125 grn bullet JHP chrnny at 1400 fps.
I could hit 2 liter bottles of water at 100 yards, blue plastic 5 gal buckets 200.
I never saw a shorter barrel do that, I did see a Super Blackhawk 44 mag with 14" barrel do way better.
I sold my 357 as I could not shoot it at all without ear protection. When out walking I dont want to woop out ear plugs each time I shoot. If not for that it was a real good shooter.

Don't ask me to do anything where where I can't take Bible and Gun, I would leave Dog home, but reluctantly.

.357 Magnum, 5.56 NATO, ANYTHING with ANY kind of muzzle device except a suppressor or silencer gets physically painful to shoot.
That said shooting ANYTHING without some sort of hearing protection, even if it isn't painful, tends to make your hearing deteriorate. I tend to double stack hearing protection because it don't grow back and I know a dozen people with hearing loss and constant ringing in their ears. If I can avoid that I'd like to.

So true, I am guilty, I try to use ear plugs whenever target shooting, But hunting,,not so much.Archer wrote:.357 Magnum, 5.56 NATO, ANYTHING with ANY kind of muzzle device except a suppressor or silencer gets physically painful to shoot.

Funny you list .357 Magnum, 5.56 NATO,that's the two I avoid.
Any time I was asked about .357 Mag for home defence, I tell people, "Crook kicks door in, BANG!, you got one dead guy and 2 deaf people." Attached is my favourite home defence pic.
