FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
Has anyone had a failure to feed in a semi-auto pistol due to a protruding firing pin?
The pistol is a Taurus Milpro PT140.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
Never really paid much attention as I haven't had enough issue within my current handguns. Have you ever done a complete teardown degrease clean and oil then reassemble? I know this isn't a a 92, but it still applies. It's also the best way to discover worn and broken parts. How many known rounds fired through her as well keep us posted.

Never seen that! Are these handloads? if so are they generating enough pressure, something close to max so that the slide fully cycles.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes, the firing pin assembly and channel were both previously cleaned.
About 25 rounds were fired that day before the pictured jam.
There was one similar jam earlier, but the protruding firing pin was not noticed.
Yes and no on the handloads. I was using handloads that test at 893 FPS,
similar to the power of Winchester White box in the Taurus.
The picture was taken after putting a freshly loaded magazine into the pistol.
I had hand racked the slide, and the bullet didn't load.
The magazine was removed, and the recovered bullet was re-inserted into the magazine.
The loaded magazine was placed back into the pistol while the slide was locked back.
The slide release lever was engaged, and as the slide went forward, the bottom of the casing jammed up against the protruding firing pin.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
And AKuser47, the pistol has many, many rounds through it.
I wish it had a Hobbs meter so I'd know for sure.
But I've put maybe 2000 rounds through it, and it was purchased used.

Have you run the issue through TaurusArmed.net?
Disregard... I found your post there.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
Gonna replace the Firing Pin Return Spring (1.11) and the Captive Firing Pin Spring Assembly (1.13).
This would be an easy fix.
Hoping the problem doesn't involve the Firing Pin Lock (1.16),
mainly because that handiwork might involve sending the firearm back to Taurus.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
SOOO,
Striker fired gun?
I think I'd be checking the sear engagement and any disconnector arrangement.
It looks to me like the firing pin either isn't getting drawn back during the slide retraction or that it is slipping off the sear prior to the slide moving forward.
It IS possible that the pin is bent and/or getting stuck in the firing pin hole in the breach but you said the pin and the channel were both cleaned. (I've heard of that happening with Glocks when the striker and channel sooted up over time.) The protrusion doesn't look excessive, except for when it is happening in the cycle.
Please keep us informed.

Re: FTF-Protruding Firing Pin
The PT140 has been reassembled, and no signs of the protruding firing pin after test firing 25 rounds.
Still a bit inconclusive as to the cause.
The Firing Pin Return Spring (1.11) was replaced,
and the Firing Pin Lock (1.16) was soaked in Breakfree for a week.
Prior to reassembly the floor was swept in the work area just in case that tiny and nearly invisible return spring should jump off the table. Which it did.
I was unable to inspect the sear engagement and disconnector process per Archer's suggestion. However, the Firing Pin Lock appears to be the part which prevents the firing pin from moving forward through the breech face. When the Firing Pin Lock is depressed, the firing pin can then be manually moved forward.
Although it should have nothing to do with the issue, The Captive Firing Pin Spring Assembly (1.13) was also replaced. I had been getting an occasional light strike on reloads with CCI primers. Plus, the old one broke during dis-assembly.
More testing will be done before the Taurus receives an official clean bill of health.
