I have the option of purchasing a Puma chambered in .357 Mag... I haven't actually looked at it to much in depth, but it has an Octagon Barrel, and Case Hardened Finish on the receiver. The store its in is notorious for marking up guns for ridiculous prices, but comes down with a fair offer (usually). For the same amount he is asking I could get either a used RanchHand with 500 rounds of ammo and a scabbard... or a brand new Rossi Carbine also in .357.
None of the three rifles are going any where soon, just kind of weighing my options at the moment as I have a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Convertible on order for next months purchase.

Well, no offense intended to our brothers here who have one, but I just can't wrap my mind and body around a Ranch Hand.
That said, I have short (trapper) carbines and octagonal lever guns. I love them both. If I had to pick one, that would be a carry mate for the BH, it would be the carbine. Best of luck making your decision.

the only reason I am contemplating the Ranch Hand is because I have seen some cool videos of one with a suppressor and a full sized stalk that makes the gun really cool... also because it would be helping a friend out.

I am not sure who manufactured the Puma.. tag said Puma m92 .357 20" barrel...

The ranch hand would probably be fun, but for me it would be one afternoon only. Then it is neither a rifle nor a handgun. Since the caliber is .357 the carbine is more practical in my mind. Mostly due to the barrel length. That cartridge isn't really my choice for longer yardages, target or hunting, so the longer barrel would get in the way. I would be using that rifle for a hiking/camp/around the house critter repellant. Optimum length for me would be 16-18". If it were a 30-30, 38-55 or 45-70 the longer barrel would be my choice.

I plan on using the rifle for plinking. If I go with the Puma, it needs to be refinished (which I find I really enjoy doing), A Rossi 92 would probably be a gun to take camping and put on my quad while riding... the RH would be a fun platform to build on.

well I got a chance to look at the "puma" some more... Its made by Chippawa (SP) and now the LGS also has a used Chippawa "Puma" for sale that has been slicked up with pretty hefty price tag. I think I am just going to bit the bullet in a few months and get a brand new Rossi .357, hopefully my LGG (local Gun Guy) can get me one for a price I can live with.
