Where I got the idea but doubt this can be any more stable than the Caldwell.

Just a quick update ... the Caldwell cheapie rest has been sent to that shelf
in the garage with all the other dust collectors.

I didn't see it, I'll have to walk out there and look again. Oh you mean yours,,, I've got one too.
google suggestion; free floating barrel.
Thats the reason for running the dollar bill down the bottom side of a barrel to make sure it slides freely and the stock is not touching the barrel. Mainly bolt action type rifles.
