New to the forum but I've already learned a ton. I put a laser on my gun today, my eyes don't like the brass bead and I had a cheap laser with pressure pad laying around. My gun is a .357, with pistols I zero lasers at 25 yards, think I should go a little further out with this gun or stick to 25?

I'm gonna shoot it some more tomorrow. I read a lot of bad words about these little guns prior to getting one, but so far mine has been perfect. (It does shoot high)

Well I can't speak for lasers but my recent experience with the Red Dot says
"start out at 25 yards". And a large backing for your target so you can see
your hits.
Had my .357 16" carbine for awhile now, replaced the original buckhorn sights
with a set of Skinner peeps but they were too far from my eye. Replaced those
with the Steve Gunz peep that replaced the safety and a Marbles fiber optic
front sight.
That was a lot better but still didn't give me the consistent groupings I was
after. So now it's a Red Dot and since I normally shoot at 50 yards I set up
at that distance. Well long story short, after six rounds down range I had no
idea where they went ???
Moved to 25 yards, got on the large cardboard backing and with a lot of help
from the Range Officer and others got it close to zeroed. Close enough that
I think I can move back to 50 yards and do some tweaking to get in that
X ring.

I think Rossi's come from the factory shooting high

I zero'd it at 25 yards. Once it was on, I fired a group 1" X 2" from the hip! From the cheek was about the same. I was using Speer Gold Dot 38+P, 135 gr loads. Pretty dang happy with that and it was right after a big cup of coffee to boot.

Over the last few weeks I've slowly but surely zeroing my .357. It's now zeroed at 25 yards with a red dot and firing 158 gr. JSPs. Next time, I'll go 50 and 75 yds.

Ballistics for the 158 grain says that, for better overall accuracy w/ 158, zero it at 100 yards. In other words, it's more accurate at 25, 50, 75 and 100. If I zero at 50, I lose more accuracy across the board .

For me, 100 yards is a fairly good reach for me and my gun so I'll probably zero at 75 yards and call it good.
