Rossi Rifleman

I'm shooting a rossi 92 357 mag. Using h110 with 16 gr of powder. Using hornady xtp 158. What would be the max yardage it would kill a deer ? If anyone might know , I would appreciate it

I wouldn't push past 100 yards. In fact I look at my 357 r 92 as a 75 yard gun 100 yards max. I'm sure some have pushed past this. Not me. Interested to see who has.

I ran the numbers through QuickLoad. Probably getting 1725 FPS and 1045 FPE out the muzzle.

Thanks. Hoping to get gun ready for gun season in a couple weeks. I have a peep sight and a fiber optic front sight coming. Eyes was losing brass dot so I painted it white and still lost it. Hoping the green fiber sight will help as I don't want to scope it

I ran the ballistics for your load at 100 yards it was at 1485 FPS and 700 LBS. It might be worth a call to Hornady, usually the greeting is worth listening too, and ask them what is the minimum velocity/energy needed to get the XTP to expand. This would be good info to know. On their website, one feature of the XTP is that it has… "Precise serrations divide the XTP® into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening the jacket and initiating controlled expansion even at low velocities." It would be worth knowing what kind of low velocities that they are talking about.

I put the bullet in my software's data base and here is what the ballistics &trajectory plus the terminal performance looks like out to 100 yards.
I think I will retitle this topic to be more indicative of the subject. Someone might need this in the future.

I really like the XTP for use against goblin.

I think I prefer a non-hollow core exposed lead as an anti-deer bullet.
