Good Morning All.

Still can't give up on using spent cartridges and looking at different options.
A .40 S&W fits inside a .44mag almost perfectly, ie. not snug but not sloppy
loose.
The .40 case will extend into receiver where the .44 wouldn't. So here's the
idea ... either solder or JB the .40 in the .44 and using a tubing cutter cut
the head stamp off the .44. The mag tube spring fits the inside the .40 no
problem there.
The trick will be keeping the .40 straight so JB may be the better choice.
Okay. let's hear it, good idea or no. Shoot anyone can order an ss follower.

Some rainy days forecast that will give me a break from yard work and I
can play around with this.

If you don't mind the work, why not give it a try. I think I like the solder idea better than the JB Weld though.

JB already this morning just waiting for it to dry.
If this doesn't work I have one more .44mag casing and lots
of .40s.

Going to do the brake cleaner flush and try to change out the
ejector spring today while it's raining. Wish me luck ...

Looks like you may have a winner!

Ended up soldering after all ... Tell you what, my little tubing cutter had it's work cut out for it.

Final result ! Dadnabit ... still doesn't extend quite far enough out
of the mag tube.

Think I can put the torch to it and slip the .40 out some more, but
not today.

Couldn't remove the stock either, the fit is super tight. Have to
search for some tips.

If its tight? Are you in a humid area? I use to work on stocks almost only in less humid winter the wood is usually easier to remove.
Good work on that follower keep us posted.

Lot of rain lately and muggy hot.
Been watching those videos and as easily those stocks come off
they must have been removed a number of times previously.
I"ll just keep working at it cause I really want to get at that
ejector spring and flushing is just a gimme.
Winter huh, that's a long way off in the south.

That's true, I have refinished a few that. Were tuff to remove. Like you said though teardown makes it easier after a few removals. Keep us posted

It works ! Extended the .40 casing a tad, won't show the final
soldering job . I've done better !

Cycled a single round of .38sp, no problem, same result with a .357mag.
Then one round of .38sp followed by one round of .357mag and cycled
both w/o a hitch. Not a field trial by any means and the original mag
follower will be in my range box.

Shortened mag spring was also a success, can load rounds much easier.
