Biscuits
I am pretty sure my grandma used Crisco in her hand squished biscuits.
Of course that might just be something that started AFTER they no longer raised hogs and had the annual hog killing putting the meat up in the smokehouse.
I have my own hand patted biscuit recipe similar to grandma's but I can't quite make them like she did.
I recall her mounding up the dry goods and adding just enough buttermilk to make 1 biscuit at a time until it was all gone. Very fluffy.
I generally mix the flour, baking powder and Crisco with a fork. Then if I've got it I tend to add cheddar cheese and parmesan. I dump the buttermilk in at once and mix. Then I pull the wet dough out by the forkful and pat it into biscuits with floured hands. I usually have to add some milk before all the biscuits are made.

Re: Biscuits
That's how I mix em. Except I do pour it out onto the counter and roll and cut them out with a drinking glass.

Re: Biscuits
I use a small drinking glass for my favorite cheap tequila, and CLP or Mobile 1 synthetic on my firearms.
I like bisquits too, but with enough bacon gravy on them it don't matter what additives you use.

Re: Biscuits
Mobile 1 ? that sounds good, i used it in my Buick so the turbo shaft would not get coked up.
I like sausage gravy with about 50% sausage mixed in. And yes, it's hard to tell there's even a biscuit in there.

Re: Biscuits
Eating Biscuits with bacon gravy, washing it down with tequila, and wiping down my 92 with some 5w30 Mobil 1...........................sounds ok to me

We probably should sort out the food discourse to the topic bucket and add to the lubrication data.
Now violating the spirit of my previous comment...
I like my biscuits without gravy.
I'll take some sage or 'hot' patty sausage or bacon or fried chicken in them though.
