Taylor Alaskan Takdown

Post by Gaterskiner »

After my recent problems with Rossi I am considering an upgrade to A better rifle.
Also looking at the Taylor 92 octagon in .45 Colt.
You can't get the walnut stock on the Alaskan. And the curved buttplate on the octagon looks like it would hurt with hot .45 Colts.
Anyone own or have experience with these rifles.

Also not sure if I want 16" or 20". Wish they made one in 18"

nice looking guns ... who actually manufactures the gun (before they do their custom finish)? And, do they supply replacement parts for diy repairs?

I talked to A rep yesterday. The guns are made by Chiappa. One year warranty. The rep stressed that they would cover problems that may come up after the warranty expired if the problem was seen to be A factory defect and they do sell replacement parts.

If money were no object, I'd be all over that take down model.

MSRP $1377. But that's usually not street price. Buds is out of stock. Last price was under $1000. Not much under but under.

The biggest problem I see is they don't offer a .44 Mag.
Granted you can hot load .45 Colt if you are so inclined but I'm not.

WHUPS I was looking at takedown not Alaskan TD.
Rubberized wood and tuned for Lever evolution rounds would be my only real questions.

Word of warning, the octagonals are nice BUT they are a bit nose heavy.

I LIKE TD models in general though. REALLY like my 1886 Japanese Winchester TD.
