Don
I can translate part of that for you....
1. While Peter and I were having our usual highly intelligent chat the other night I think I may have come across as abusive, then whiney .... (Is that correct, my friend down under? )
2. the mention of scrambling for lead (another whine? ) sounds as if you never heard of the walmart parking lot after dark..... thus why he wouldn't park his vehicle in your driveway.
3. the jab about the scoped rifle and hitting the 12"x16" steel must have been a mis-understanding of the true conditions .... wasn't that shooting .38 spl rounds at 600 yards with a 20 mph cross wind?
4. not sure about the knee pad reference .... I haven't totally mastered the NZ language yet myself
Hope that helped a bit.

Oh yeah, now that's clear as mud!
what does walmart have to do with anything??? I GUESS i HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT. damit caploc
probably the mention of a 12x16 threw him off as he thought I meant millah meeters.
yeah, the knee pads, I don't know where he's going with that one...........but he better be careful.

Don, in your quest for wheel weights for casting purposes ... don't tell me you never considered shopping the darkened parking lot of wallyworld for wheel weights to support your addiction
The other night I looked at a map of the world .... can't be too hard to find New Zealand. Looks to me like you just drive South until you run out of dry ground, then take a right by boat for a few miles. Big island, can't miss it. I'm already in for $35 for gas money, but that wouldn't leave much for beef jerky and peanuts for the trip.

Re: Reloading Data for 92 .357
Well, actually no I have not. Our walmart is pretty well lit!
But while fueling up at a truck stop the other day. I did notice how easy it would be to get 50 lbs of lead if I could get all the weights in that truck stop.
WE WENT TO aUSTRALIA 7-8 YEARS AGO, AND i'V REGREATTED NOT GOING TO nz FOR A WEEK WHILE WE WERE THAT CLOSE DAMN CAP LOC damit

I understand the cap lock thing ... and the inability to type without looking at the keyboard instead of the screen. These newfangled wireless keyboards don't have the little light to tell you when the all caps and numlock are on. Drives me nutz.
As far as the "trip", mrs surv and I have had two places on our bucket list (outside of everywhere in Texas) since we married 41 years ago. Alaska and Australia/New Zealand (hope it's not offensive to put Aus and NZ together as a destination). We finally did Alaska last year and desperately want to go back and do more glacier hikes before I'm too crippled. But, I still have a huge desire to make the trip to the Southern extents while I'm still on the green side of the grass.
Sorry, KH, we got way
Back on topic ..... how well do the 180 gr CB's do in the 1:30 twist of the R92? My son just bought a Ruger 77/357 with a 1:16 twist and we're both contemplating him using the gas checked 180's with an adequate dose of either Accurate #9 or Aliant 2400 (and he's even considering his stash of IMR4227).
Have you tried the 180's?

No I haven't, but 180 would work! a bit heavy for rabbits.
As for need pads it was just being kind to Don as he looks for lead at the range .(SAVE your knees for something important Don)

Re: Reloading Data for 92 .357
OH now I got it!
I think I need wrist braces more than knee pads
Why 180s? I kinda understand why everybody seems to want to shoot the heaviest projectile possible in pistol calibers (I really don't understand but I'm trying to be nice). I tend to stick with the standard weight (for caliber) slugs. I do understand that the heavies will go pretty fast, and that delivers more energy but, I have to ask. How much do you need to do what you want to accomplish?
Like KH keeps saying "what range are you shooting, and what are you shooting at"? Since we all seem to agree that 100 yds is about as far as we need to shoot at game, energy at distance is not that big of a factor. AND bullet drop is really not that big of a issue either, at that distance.
KH, The 1 in 30 gets blamed a lot for poor accuracy with heavy slugs, and I can not say yea nor nay with confidence, as to whether that's really a factor. I do know that my 155g swc is more accurate than my 170swc is, in the rossi. Opposite that in my ruger pistol. AND, RD does not seem to have a problem with accuracy while using heavies in his rossis.
That large scope and "little group"(?) it wasn't really all that little, like I thought it should be while using that scope. And that showed me the 170swc might not be what I want to use if I'm after best accuracy.
Shooting at that 12x16 at 230 yards showed me that shooting at game at that distance is very doable. And the sound of the lead impacting the steel was proof that there is plenty of energy left to do the job. But I would have to do a lot more shooting at that range, and put some holes in paper there too. To see exactly how well the "hits" are grouping, before I were to try a kill at that range.

Re: Reloading Data for 92 .357
I wish I had seen this from you before my last test loading two days ago,I had used multiple sources for my load "work ups", and the one really conflicting piece of data was the choice of primer to use. Ended up using Mag primers in all the 357 rounds and some in the 38sp rounds.....is this another " you probably shouldn't have done that" kind of thing....based on your experience.Ranch Dog wrote:I personally don't pay attention to the primer brand and I don't use Mag primers in the 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Mag.Kiwi-Hunter wrote:the 15gn looked like it may work but the primers ?

Re: Reloading Data for 92 .357
Current LP primers from Winchester are labeled for standard and magnum loads.
My initial .44 loads when I got the Dillon Square Deal were set up based on what the previous owner was shooting. They were fine in the rifle but were a bit stout IMO for the wheelguns. I dropped the charge load a bit. I might have to adjust it again as that load was with mag primers and I'll probably be using the Winchester standard/mags in the future.
