Re: Another 7.62x39 now calls my ranch home!
Ruger only offers three models chambered in 7.62x39 now, don't know how many have been available in the past. The 5803 and 5853 are the stainless models with 20" barrels. The 5803 has a tapered barrel profile and the 5853's barrel a straight profile. My model, the 5854, is the only "black" rifle. It has a 16 1/8" barrel with the straight, non-tapering barrel.

I beg to differ...

The "third little piggy" joined the sounder today. Here are my three 7.62x39s; the Mini-Mauser, Single Shot, and Ranch Rifle.
Didn't get the Mini-Mauser up to the range this afternoon as by the time I got the sights off it and put the Bushnell on I had to get back to my choice. I'm nothing but impressed by the rifle as far as the workmanship goes. Those that own them tell me the shoot well, so I expect that I will be pleased.

Nice. Looking forward to the full report. BTW, are those scopes all the same? What model are they?

Yes, they are the Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32. I should have my scout mount for the Mini-30 tomorrow and then it will wear the Weaver K4 Classic Scout. The little Banner is my favorite scope, I've taken hundreds of critters looking through them.klr wrote:Nice. Looking forward to the full report. BTW, are those scopes all the same? Thanks. I've been looking for a decent inexpensive scope for deer.

That is definitely going to happen. I had heard the same and planned accordingly. Wood is going to look real good with the depth the Tru-Oil gives. This is really a compact rifle, reminds me of the Remington 600.akuser47 wrote:I have seen people refinish those m85 stocks and they look amazing may want to break out the tru oil or other oil finish. def. keep us posted.
