Everything else is on the correct side. The photo came from a series commissioned by the QM corps to record the uniforms and equipment for history. They took models, pulled uniforms and equipment, and dressed and photographed them. It seems that they were more interested in showing the equipment well than showing how the gear was correctly worn (and the QM guys, photographers, and models would not always know what was correct [or what was found to work well in the field], so they seem to have made some errors and also moved things to they would be seen more clearly in the photos. In this case, the carbine would have been hidden behind the trooper if worn to the right side.mr surveyor wrote:the pic of the cavalry sergeant must be from a painted tintype photo ... reversed image.

Good thread,
The roots of solutions or inspiration for innovation are invariably found in the past. I have never been happy with Traditional 2 or 3 point Slings due to the flop around factor and the need for a Magazine Band with my 92. The single point you Folks have posted looks like it is well worth the effort of fitting a Saddle Ring and giving it a try. May not work with my 92 due to the long Barrel but certainly worth a try on the Rio Grande
Not a 92, but my Rio Grande and my homemade Stock Cover and 2 point Sling.
regards Jacko

Nice leather work. That makes me want to learn how to work leather. So far all I've done is use an empty .22 shell to put another hole in a belt.

Wow.... that IS nice!
I think I have just enough leather to fold over the buttstock of my 92 .... somewhere in a big box of all the leather working tools I stored away some 30 years ago.
That design has inspired me to go hunting for that box

Jacko, very nice leather work. I'm planning on something like that with buckskin for my 92. The strap across the kick pad is a great idea for what I have in mind. Thanks for posting the pictures.

There is a fellow on another forum that does custom leather stuff for all sorts of firearms; including lever guns. If is is NOT okay for me to post a link just blow this away!! Levergun Leather Works
He isn't inexpensive but then custom work never is.
