Re: I'm Going to Ruin this Marlin 336 in 35 Remington
I did some shooting tonight. I loaded three rounds using the data supplied by RD - 35.8 gr of H335. I got 1910, 1880,and 1907 fps. With the short barrel and light weigh I think I created a monster. I then tried three shots using 18gr of 2400 powder. I did this before the barrel chop and wanted to see how much I lost going to a shorter barrel. Average before was 1611 fps and after is 1470 for a loss of 141 fps.

I have an ol rubber limbsaver slip on that always helps with tameing the recoil on some of my toys. It will not look as good as a leather one.

Great job straightening the stock - most people who do this do it wrong and end up with a weird profile.
I like a pistol grip stock on certain leverguns, but it has to have the right shape and look or I would prefer it to be straight. I went a different way on the stock on this project, but if I had not, a straight grip was a consideration:
Like you, I did not care for the original stock profile.
I'm interested to see what you do with the lever in the future.
For a buttpad, what about having a leather stock cover made with room for one of the gel-pads that I think come from Limbsaver?

Nice work. Is that a 20" barrel with a 5 round mag tube? If so, how much did you remove?

I didn't remove any - it started as a 1952 Marlin 336 SC .35 Rem. Here is a before photo:

I used the original wood. The older Marlin wood is generally better than it would seem with the factory finish.
I can say that you definitely did not ruin yours! I like the way it turned out.
