My New 92

Post by yakslaks »

I'm going to do a build thread of sorts on my 92 to keep track of things, for help, & insight!

I wanted a pistol and rifle companion set and after a lot of reading and deliberation I choose the Rossi over a Marlin 1894SS, Kel Tec Sub2000 9mm, and a Legacy M-1 Carbine 9mm. I choose the Rossi for several reasons. I can hunt with a 44 Magnum rifle/revolver and its lower upfront cost. It’s a kind of a project and what man does project? I could go on and on but hey I’ve already bought it so who am I trying to convince.

I want to do some basic upgrades that I have read about here and other places
-Steve’s DVD & mag follower
-Mule Loop (Stainless copy of factory)
-EoTech 512
-Stock refinish
-Sling swivels (Belgian Congo style)
-Levergun Leather Cheek Rest w/loops and Sling

Anyhow here are some pictures of what I’ve got

Here it is with the EOTech mounted up

Where to start? The rear sight tapped out really easy.

The holes had some kind of gunk that was a pain to get out you can see here.

I mounted the Weaver first hoping it would work since it was silver and lined up nice with the top of the receiver. But it was at to much of an angle so it maxed out the EOTech's elevation as well as not having enough cross slots putting the sight over the receiver blocking everything. I put the Rossi mount on next and more trouble! I tightened the screws as tight as I could and the mount would wobble. Coke can to the rescue! I cut some shims and presto wobble gone. The Rossi mount sticks out a little on the front side which is OK i can cut it down. Now all need to do is take the EOTech off paint and when my swivel bases come in I'll get the Rossi mount chrome plated.

If you are going to coat the EOTech, coat just the hood and the battery cover. This will look good and avoid the major headache of trying to mask everything (lenses, rubber buttons, etc.)

I was looking at that. I was also looking at driving the pin out and painting the locking lever. What do you think?

I find that heavy clear plastic from the bubble packages makes pretty good shims........it's really strong & being inert plastic doesn't do the dissimilar metal corrosive eletrolysis thing when in contact with barrel metal like coke can metal does.

So I'll give a list of parts I'm still waiting for.
My order from Steve's Gunz- the DVD & mag follower.
My order from Brownells- Dakota Swivel Studs, nickle plated 1" sling swivels, gunslinger spring kit, Brownells 92 screwdriver set, & Tru Oil stock refinishing kit

Also any one that has a factory Rossi large loop either on their 92 or Ranch Hand that would be interested in tracing or making a rubbing of it shoot me a PM. I'll mail you an envelope to mail it back to me!

About how long does it take Steve to ship out?
