I've cleaned a few rabbits to eat, but never an animal to save the fur. Guess I need to find someone to show me the ropes. It would be nice if I could sell enough to buy a rifle.akuser47 wrote: The trick is to find a buyer that pays more when you process them rather than the old hillbilly like my grandfather that took 300 or more still frozen coon corpses to them for less than a dollar or so a coon. back then the prices are better now but they still flucuate alot.

Re: Protein Feeder
Sorry klr I am having trouble with the youtube share option checking into it with RD, but if you go to youtube type "fleshing a coon" you can then watch alot of videos that show what needs to be done to process hides. Ok I found out the share option for the video I prefer is faulty I tried another fleshing video and no problem.

Thanks. I'll watch some more later, but it looks too much like work.
I don't know how the share function works, but I copy the address on the youtube page and then hit the URL button on this topic window and insert my copied address in between the brackets. [url]http://www.youtube.com ... hTddL4aGhU

Re: Protein Feeder
With the video I prefered It would not link that way or any other way as soon as I tried it with another video GTG LoL. Once you have what you need it goes fast. fleshing stretching the hides. It takes time to get good at it cause if you leave meat on the skin it rots and smells foul. The time it take him to power wash it he could have used the draw knife to do it faster with less stink. It is an idea though never seen that before.

Yea, I thought the power washing looked really slow and tedious. I once fleshed a deer hide but then lost interest and let it sit in the wood ashes (to loosen the hair) too long. When I returned the whole thing had dissolved.

Dang, that protein is making the big and strong! I've had them, as a group, hang from the tubes and start swinging until they break it off!
Also pulled the top of another feeder and had a squirrel jump out on my head. He had burrowed up the tube, got trapped inside the can, and was just waiting to get out. This has actually happen twice to me.

Re: Protein Feeder
I think I have a whole Army of them..... I think I will be going into town tomorrow and getting my trapping license. It may pay for some of the feed I have been feeding them for the last year. I used to Trap a lot as a kid. Guess I need to dust off the traps and get busy.
The squirrel incident may have caused me to have to change my shorts right there in the pasture....
