Noticed some loads in the Hodgdon book using 147 gr XTP bullets. 1200 fps from a 4 inch. Anyone try this load yet? Cant find Lil'Gun around here yet.

I would have thought that it was too slow for the 9 monkey meter. I guess with that heavy of a bullet it is ok. I'll bet the case is FULL!

Yeah, a full case is not going to give you much either. I shoot a lot of 9mm Luger bullets each year, about 5 to 7 thousand rounds a year, all of them are heavy. Most of them are my 135-grain home cast gas checked bullets but I do shoot about 2K rounds of factory ammo with the 147-grain bullets each year.

In a nutshell and as Don stated, Lil'Gun is too slow. If you want to stick with Hodgdon's line of powders Universal or HS-6 are the powders of choice. Using an OAL with the Hornady 147-grain XTP, you will see approximately a 350-grain loss in velocity with Lil'Gun over what you will achieve with either Lil'Gun or HS-6.

The heavy bullets make the 9mm Luger a very effective handgun. Some of my training is against steel drop targets and the standard 115-grain bullets have problems competing with the 40 S&W and 45 ACP as you get a lot of ricochets that don't drop the targets. Not so with the 147-grain bullets.

Yes, I thought the load looked kind of odd. Will have to go get that magazine for more info.

My mistake, guys. The load of Lil'Gun is for the 38 Super. Still pretty good with a 147 at 1200. Thats near low end 357 Magnum.

BTW, VV lists the 147 gr Hornady XTP with VV-3N38 at 1200 fps in a 4 inch 9mm.
