Scope on M92

Post by malk415 »

Gents..
New member here. I am considering buying a Ross 92 357 in stainless.

Due to my age I can no longer see open sights or peep sights so I will need to have a scope on the rifle.

Do they come from the factory with barrels that are tapped so that I can put a scout mount scope or red dot on it?

Underneath the rear sight are holes for the rossi scope base available on amazon and other online sources that will work to scout mount a scope. I will probly be doin this soon to shoot better.

On the 16 and 20 inch carbines ...yes

But on the 20 and 24 inch rifles ...no.

That is what I have heard at least. I have carbines and yes, they are drilled and tapped. I do not have a rifle YET, so I can only repeat what I have heard.

My 20" r92 is tapped n ready for scope base but rumer is some are not. Easy to check slide sight ramp out of blade and see if you have a tapped barrel.

One would think that little tidbit would possibly be a selling point to list on the website. Maybe we need to send that suggestion to Rossi to list what rifles have been drilled and tapped to accommodate a scope base. I know I have seen that info on other sites.... I think, maybe I'm nuts? :?

Pretty sure the scope bases work only on round barrels.

To clarify this, cause it reads a little confusing.

16" and 20" ROUND barrel carbines, ARE drilled and tapped for a scope base

20" and 24" octagon barreled rifles, are NOT drilled and tapped for a scope base

Malk415,

If you do get a scope, do yourself a favor and get the Weaver 4x28 classic scout scope. It's a great scope. I just put one on my 357-r92 and love it. Shot some good 100yd groups with it too.
