Too cold to shoot so I went out and picked up a can of linseed oil. Been rubbing some in and am really loving where this is going. What a difference in color and depth.Went with Boiled Linseed Oil

Re: Went with Boiled Linseed Oil
Did you apply the linseed oil over the factory finish or did you remove the finish first?
It looks nice in the photographs. I'm sure it looks even better in person.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Went with Boiled Linseed Oil
Thanks guys. I went ahead and applied it directly to the factory finish. All I really was looking for was a deeper color but not too dark. It worked perfect. It really brought out the grain in the wood that I just can't get in a camera shot. I am happy with it.

good job I like BLO cause you can keep adding to it when needed, and it seems to get better and better in time.

Worked for me too.bueller66 wrote:Thanks guys. I went ahead and applied it directly to the factory finish. All I really was looking for was a deeper color but not too dark. It worked perfect. It really brought out the grain in the wood that I just can't get in a camera shot. I am happy with it.
Some of the rifles I saw where the factory finish had been removed before applying BLO/Tru-Oil were too light "anemic" in color.
I used my two pre-64 WInchester model 94 rifles (1949 & 1955)that still have their original factory finishes as the color template and my M92s are now indistinguishable from them in color.
Your rifle looks good.......you wouldn't want it any lighter for that genuine legacy look.
