Hello folks,
I'm new here but I believe I have arrived at the right place. So here is my problem
I have a model 92 44mag carbine and the rear stock had been severely damaged well let us say gone so I bought a new rear stock from precision gunstock.and I ordered a metal butt plate from Rossi.
And some one is bound to ask why I just didn't get the plate from the stock people. Well here's the scoop. Stock people wanted $75.00 to grind down and alter and cold blue a Winchester butt plate to fit because A Rossi butt plate are slightly smaller than Winchester and they said they can't get rossi plates because too many people are making ranch hand stocks full length and Rossi is trying to curb such things. Can you imagine that? Anyway I was able to get a butt plate from Rossi delivered for under $40.00. They only sent me one screw though.
In there defense they only charged me for one screw. Now I should be sitting pretty but the buttplate don't fit it's way off. Not even close, the butt plate just rounds over a little over the top of the stock about the size of a quarter so a screw can go in it. My stock is like an old Winchester where it goes over the top and has like a finger that has a screw hole in it. Very much like old Whinchester butt plates. Now before I call the stock people( they were really good to me and I don't think they messed up with there cutting the butt plate) I want to know if Rossi has different styles for there model 92 line. I've rambled on enoff what's your opinion?
Thank you everyone

Re: Model 92 butt plates different types ?
Hommer,
I have looked at those stocks several times and wanted to try one.
To your question, yes, there are two types of rossi plates. One fits the carbines and is made from sheet metal stamped to size and shape. And the other is a cast piece that only comes on the rifles.
Precision sez there stock is a carbine model and would thus use the stamped one. Is the one you have pretty thick and heavy? The carbine one is only about 1/8" thick, and weights only a few ounces.
Look here for a comparison http://www.rossiusa.com/product-list.cf ... les&page=2

Re: Model 92 butt plates different types ?
I went to Rossi's web site and nowhere could I see the different types of butt plates clearly. I could see the heavy cast type in brass and it looks very close to what was sent to me. I will describe this on as if you took your thumb while grasping the buttplate and layed it over the top edge of the stock. Your thumb nail is where you would put the screw in the top edge of the stock. The butt plate would end where the tip of your thumb is just after the screw. My stock continues On past the tip of your thumb about an inch then screws to the stock like an old Winchester. I hope this is the 1/8 " butt plate you described. I like the looks better but I like the cast one if only for its durability. I wish I could see a picture of this 1/8 thick type of buttplate or the flimsy one as you would call it the stamped metal type! Does anybody have a picture they can post this would be very helpful to me. Thank you all for your help!

Oh yea, I think the guys name at Precision stock is Gary, this gentlemen was a huge help to me. And even before I saw my stock I would've advised someone to purchase one from them. Helpful doesn't even start to cover what this gentleman did for me during and after the purchase. The only thing I was surprised about was they did not know anyone that could checker my stock for me. You would think this service would go hand in hand with that type of company. Does anyone know a good checkering artist?

BTW,
How does the stock fit your gun? Was there much fitting to do? And if you had the option of a rossi jungle wood stock or the walnut which do you think "LOOKS" the best, and or is the walnut worth it for looks?
